Watch: Booker Says Trump ‘Violating the Fundamental Rights of People in Order to Punish Them’

Matzav -

New Jersey Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that President Donald Trump was “violating the fundamental rights of people in order to punish them.”

Partial transcript as follows:

STEPHANOPOULOS: You saw Jon Karl’s piece about the president’s retribution campaign, he promised to be the retribution during the campaign. We’re seeing these moves against universities. We’re seeing these moves against law firms. You took the Senate floor to protest. What should these law firms and universities do?

BOOKER: Well, first and foremost, you’re calling retribution, but it’s something far worse than that. If you look around the world, from Viktor Orban, to Vladimir Putin, this is not what democratic leaders do. This is really a violation of our constitutional principles, that he’s using that power of that office, not to advance noble causes that could help the American people, whether I disagree with them or not, that’s what a president is called to do, do what they think is in the best interests of the public at large. What this president is instead doing is violating our constitutional principles, violating the fundamental rights of people in order to punish them, to carry out his own retribution plan.

You know, John F. Kennedy famously said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Donald Trump is now saying, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for Donald Trump to make amends. He is trying to hurt people, to make them cower to him and offer him tribute in order to not violate the Constitution and hurt them economically. This is something that should not just be about a bunch of law firms. This is something that should ultimately be about Americans.

And every American right now should be sitting back – I don’t care if you’re a Republican, Democrat or independent, and should ask yourself, when is it enough? When has he crossed my line when it comes to my love of this country? Is it bad enough that he’s putting on the biggest tax on Americans that I’ve ever seen through these tariffs, which are taxes on Americans? Is that enough? Is it enough when he’s threatening the health care of tens of millions of Americans, disabled children or elders? Is that enough? Is that crossing my line? Or will it pay for his tax cuts?

European Union Offers To Remove Industrial Tariffs On US Goods: ‘Ready For A Good Deal’

Matzav -

The European Union has proposed eliminating tariffs on industrial goods in a reciprocal deal with the Trump administration, following Washington’s move to introduce 20% tariffs last week.

“We have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods as we have successfully done with many other trading partners,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Monday.

“Because Europe is always ready for a good deal. So we keep it on the table,” she stated during a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Markets around the world have seen sharp declines since Trump declared April 2 as “Liberation Day,” unveiling a new 10% universal tariff rate, with even steeper import duties scheduled to kick in on April 9.

Wall Street Jumps After White House Adviser Says Trump Considering 90-Day Pause In Tariffs

Carville Compares Those Cooperating with Trump to Nazi Collaborators

Matzav -

Democratic political consultant James Carville drew a controversial comparison on his “Politicon” podcast Friday, likening individuals and organizations aligning with President Donald Trump’s administration to those who sided with the Nazis during World War II.

Carville expressed frustration with law firms and corporations supporting Trump, saying, “How disgraced must these law firms feel now? How disgraced must these companies that are sucking up to him – that are giving him tens of millions of dollars for access. Do you know what’s going to happen? Do you know how this ends? Do you know these collaborators, what the country is going to feel towards collaborators with this regime? Maybe you need to go in history and see what happened in August of 1944 after Paris was liberated. They didn’t take very kindly to the collaborators. No. It was not a very pretty sight in the streets of Paris.”

He went on to clarify that he wasn’t calling for violent or humiliating punishment, but pointed to history as a warning. “I’m not saying that these people should be placed in pajamas and have their head shaved, marched down Pennsylvania Avenue and spit on. I’m not saying that, but I’m saying that that did happen. And I’m saying that these people betrayed the French nation in the same way that I think that these law firms and these giant corporate conglomerates are betraying the United States. What their comeuppance is I can only guess. I don’t believe in any kind of, don’t believe you should assault anybody.”

HIGHWAY DRAMA: After High-Speed Chase, Police Arrest Terrorist On The Way To Attack

Yeshiva World News -

Israeli security forces on Monday received intelligence information indicating that a terrorist was making his way from the Shomron toward Tel Aviv to carry out a terror attack. A high-speed chase took place, and police and Shin Bet forces stopped a vehicle as it approached Route 1 via Route 6 on Monday afternoon. A search of the vehicle revealed nine Palestinians who had entered Israel illegally, including the terrorist who was armed with an assault rifle. The suspects were arrested and transferred for questioning.   (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

TAKE PICTURES OF HELL: “Journalist” For CNN And AP Who Participated In Oct. 7 Massacre Killed In IDF Strike

Yeshiva World News -

The IDF announced Monday it had eliminated Hassan Abdel Fattah Mohammed Eslaih, a Hamas terrorist and former employee of CNN and the Associated Press, in a targeted airstrike in Khan Yunis. Eslaih, a member of Hamas’s Khan Yunis Brigade, was not only a combatant in the terrorist organization — he was also a photojournalist with a global portfolio, previously accredited by some of the world’s largest media outlets. Eslaih actively participated in the October 7 massacre, infiltrating southern Israel and sharing graphic footage of the attacks in real time on social media. “This was not a journalist covering conflict,” an IDF spokesperson said. “This was a terrorist who used a camera as cover and social media as a weapon.” Iran’s Mehr News Agency had previously referred to him as “Israel’s nightmare,” praising his “tireless coverage” of Gaza. A 2024 photo showing former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar kissing Eslaih circulated widely and further confirmed his deep ties to the terror group. Both CNN and the AP claimed to have fired Eslaih immediately upon learning of his affiliation with Hamas — but the damage was already done. Shortly after the revelations, the families of five victims of the Nova music festival massacre — May Naim, Lotan Abir, Guy Gabriel, Shalev Madmoni, and Shani Louk — filed a civil lawsuit in the Jerusalem District Court against the Associated Press and Reuters, demanding NIS 25 million (approximately $6.5 million) in damages. The suit alleges that Eslaih and others functioned not as neutral journalists, but as active participants in the massacre, capturing and distributing horrifying images in real time — actions that the families argue made them “a component of the attack itself.” While AP and CNN have yet to comment on the suit, Reuters confirmed last week to Jerusalem-based watchdog HonestReporting that it had removed all images by Gazan photographers with ties to terrorist groups, including Eslaih, from its content platform. “When informed about possible problems with certain content… we investigated and took it down because the material didn’t comply with our partner content policy,” Reuters said in a statement. Despite these removals, Eslaih’s images had already made their way into the archives of Getty, Sky News, and the New York Times. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

US Stocks Nosedive, With S&P 500 Entering Bear Territory As Global Tariff Rout Worsens

Matzav -

U.S. stocks took a sharp tumble on Monday morning as market losses around the world deepened. The downturn followed President Trump’s weekend remarks indicating that his administration’s controversial “reciprocal” tariffs aren’t likely to be lifted in the near future.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 1,323 points, a fall of 3.3%, building on last week’s dramatic two-day slide of nearly 4,000 points.

The S&P 500 shed 3.5%, slipping into bear market territory, while the Nasdaq 100 also took a hit, falling 3.8%.

“The uncertainty of trading partner retaliation is still weighing on the markets,” Richard Saperstein, chief investment officer at Treasury Partners, wrote in a client note.

He continued, “Markets won’t rebound until tariffs are negotiated and reduced, until valuations move even lower to very compelling levels, and until fundamentals improve and none of these factors are in the cards at this time.”

Hopes had been high among investors that other countries would move swiftly to the bargaining table, helping the U.S. steer clear of the fallout from Trump’s aggressive new tariff structure — which includes a standard 10% import tax and significantly steeper penalties for certain countries. Economists have cautioned that these measures could spark renewed inflation.

When questioned over the weekend about the widespread sell-off in international markets, Trump replied, “sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something.”

Adding to investor unease, major financial institutions such as JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs have revised their forecasts, increasing the probability of a recession to 60% and 45%, respectively.

At the same time, the threat of retaliatory action by America’s trade partners added to the volatility, particularly after China imposed a retaliatory tariff of 34% on U.S. goods on Friday.

Analysts say these tariffs could deal a serious blow to American businesses with substantial domestic production, including consumer giants like Coca-Cola.

China Accuses US Of Unilateralism, Protectionism And Economic Bullying With Tariffs

Yeshiva World News -

China on Monday accused the U.S. of unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying with tariffs, while calling on representatives of American companies, including Tesla, to “take concrete actions” to resolve the issue. Putting “America First” over international rules harms the stability of global production and the supply chain and seriously impacts the world’s economic recovery, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian told reporters. Last week, Trump put an additional 34% tariff on Chinese goods as part of “Liberation Day,” on top of two rounds of 10% tariffs already declared in February and March, which Trump said were due to Beijing’s role in the fentanyl crisis. China and other governments retaliated quickly. China announced its own 34% tariff rate on U.S. goods, mirroring Trump’s tariff rate for China. On Monday, Beijing struck a note of confidence even as markets in Hong Kong and Shanghai tumbled. The People’s Daily, the Communist Party’s official mouthpiece, had strong words. “The sky won’t fall,” it declared, even if the U.S. tariffs have an impact. “Faced with the indiscriminate punches of U.S. taxes, we know what we are doing and we have tools at our disposal,” it added. Beijing had announced a slew of countermeasures Friday evening aimed at Trump’s tariffs. As part of these measures, China suspended sorghum, poultry and bonemeal imports from some American companies, and put more export controls on rare earth minerals, critical for various technologies, while launching a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization. It is unknown if China’s leader, Xi Jinping, will meet with Trump to make a deal on the tariffs. Lin directed questions about a possible meeting to other departments. “Pressure and threats are not the way to deal with China. China will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,” Lin added. Still, over the weekend, Chinese government officials met a slew of American business representatives including for Tesla, GE Healthcare and others. “The root of the tariff problem is in the U.S.,” said Ling Ji, a vice minister of Commerce, at the meeting with the 20 American companies, according to a readout of the meeting. “We hope the American companies can address the problem at its root, … issue reasonable statements, take concrete actions, and work together to safeguard the stability of the global supply chain. Ling also promised that China will remain open to foreign investment and that it was safe to invest. In Hong Kong, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the current market volatility does not warrant any drastic measures, and vowed that the city would remain a free port. After the city’s stock market slumped 13.2% on Monday, Chan told reporters was functioning in an orderly fashion with substantial selling and buying interests. But the U.S. tariffs would inevitably cause market fluctuations, while retaliatory measures and interest rate policy from other countries would trigger more volatile capital flows. He blasted the U.S. latest tariffs as “bullying and unreasonable,” saying they have disrupted global supply chains and severely impacted the global economic recovery. Hong Kong, a former British colony which returned to China in 1997, enjoys semi-autonomy that allows its policies and economic system to be different from mainland China’s. (AP)

T-Residence Makes Luxury Obsolete

Yeshiva World News -

‘Home Couture’ concept solves the headache of buying an apartment from abroad Arriving at the T-Residence offices in Romema, I expected to hear about a standard luxury development. Covering the real estate scene in Yerushalayim for years, I wasn’t prepared to be surprised. But I discovered a fundamentally different approach to creating homes and a new concept they call ‘Home Couture.’ Over coffee with panoramic views of Jerusalem, the design team shared insights into what makes this project unlike anything else in the city. I’ve heard the term ‘Home Couture’ mentioned. It sounds fancy, but what does it actually mean for someone buying at T-Residence? [Chani, lead designer, leans forward enthusiastically] “Imagine moving into your dream home in Yerushalayim where everything — from the kitchen cabinetry to the lighting — is already designed, installed and ready for life. No running between suppliers, no coordinating contractors, no endless decision fatigue. That’s ‘Home Couture.'” So it’s like buying a fully furnished home? “It’s much more than that. This isn’t about picking furniture packages. We’ve created three complete design languages — Classic Chic, Sleekly Modern and Artful Elegance — where every element is integrated. The wood kitchen with custom cabinetry, the ornamental plaster designs, the advanced VRF air conditioning systems, the *netilas yadayim* corners, the custom lighting schemes — all thoughtfully designed for each apartment layout.” Wait, there’s a dedicated netilas yadayim station built in? “Absolutely. We understand our community’s needs. These aren’t just aesthetic choices; they’re about how people actually live. For our residents, having a beautifully designed netilas yadayim corner isn’t a luxury — it’s essential.” We’ve talked a lot about the interior but I’m really curious about the location. What’s all this talk in your ads about discovering peace? Romema is known for being busy and even commercial. “That’s exactly what makes this different! We call it ‘the Romema you never knew.’ Yes, everyone knows the bustling streets of Shamgar and Yirmiyahu with the stores and eateries. But just a few steps away, on Tuval Street, there’s this peaceful enclave tucked above all that activity. When you see our three buildings beside a sprawling 3,000-square-yard private park, you understand immediately. There are no retail spaces here — it’s purely residential. You have all the convenience of central Romema but on an island of serenity. You can walk to everything you need, but when you come home, you have genuine tranquility.” Wow! What about international buyers who can’t visit in person. How does this ‘Home Couture’ process work? “This is where technology transforms the entire process. We’ve created incredibly detailed 3D renderings of each design style applied to every apartment layout. International buyers can explore their future home online with tremendous precision. Everything is presented digitally in a clear, comprehensive way — no surprises. They make their selection and we handle everything else. When they arrive for the first time, their home looks exactly as they envisioned. Obviously this removes a ton of stress.” Are there any surprising, hidden details that residents might not immediately notice? [The whole team lights up and starts speaking at once] “So many things! The hidden lighting integrated into kitchen cabinetry, display cases, and bathroom niches. The precise plaster details at height transitions. The floating tile detail in bathrooms with concealed lighting. The Italian WINEX aluminum […]
