Nations Prepared To Arm Iran With Nuclear Warheads After US Strikes, Russia’s Medvedev Claims

Matzav -

Several nations are now prepared to provide Iran with nuclear warheads in response to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, according to former Russian president Dmitriy Medvedev. He made the assertion in a statement posted on social media Sunday.

Writing on X/Twitter, Medvedev argued that the recent U.S. military action targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure — specifically sites in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow — had backfired and ultimately undermined the goals that President Donald Trump had intended to achieve.

Medvedev stated, “enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue.”

Russia’s Foreign Ministry also weighed in on Sunday, issuing a sharp rebuke of the U.S. for launching airstrikes on Iranian soil.

“The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” the ministry said in a formal statement.

“We call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track,” the statement continued.

Medvedev also declared, “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads.”

Serving as Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council since 2020, Medvedev added that the leadership in Tehran has not only endured the assault but appears to have gained strength. “Iran’s political regime has survived — and in all likelihood, has come out even stronger,” he said, adding that even those citizens previously detached or critical were now “rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership.”

Later that same day, reports emerged that President Trump would be holding a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the wake of the U.S. military action in Iran.

NYT: Iran’s Ali Khamenei Suspends Communications, Speaks Through ‘Trusted Aide’

Matzav -

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has reportedly ceased using any form of electronic communication and now relays messages to military commanders solely through a hand-picked confidant due to fears for his life, according to a New York Times report published Sunday morning. The paper cited three Iranian officials with direct knowledge of Khamenei’s emergency wartime protocols.

These sources revealed that Israeli intelligence activity inside Iran’s defense and security infrastructure has deeply unsettled the leadership, including Khamenei himself. “Rattled the Iranian power structure, even Ayatollah Khamenei,” the officials said, as quoted by the NYT.

Amid these concerns, Iranian state-run media outlets have begun alerting the public to the dangers of using mobile devices, cautioning that tracking technology can be exploited for hostile operations.

According to Iranian authorities, Israel has used cell phone data to locate and assassinate individuals inside the country, including key figures involved in Iran’s nuclear program.

These developments follow President Donald Trump’s decision to coordinate with Israel in carrying out strikes on Iranian nuclear targets. They also come after a prior New York Times report disclosed that Khamenei had selected three prominent clerics as potential successors, should he be killed.

That earlier report noted that Khamenei has directed the Assembly of Experts—the body responsible for selecting the next supreme leader—to move quickly and pick his successor from among those three candidates, bypassing what would normally be a protracted selection process.

What Are Bunker Busters: Everything To Know About The $500 Million Bombs

Matzav -

Destroying Iran’s final undamaged nuclear site required an immensely powerful weapon — a task only the United States was equipped to handle, due to its possession of a 15-ton “bunker buster” bomb.

The Fordow uranium enrichment facility, hidden approximately 300 feet beneath a mountain near Qom, roughly two hours from Tehran, was built to withstand most conventional attacks. To reach such a deeply buried site, an extraordinary level of explosive force was needed.

That force comes from the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a bomb developed by Boeing specifically for the U.S. Air Force. It holds the distinction of being the heaviest non-nuclear weapon in America’s arsenal.

Because of its tremendous size and weight, this bomb can only be deployed by a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber — an advanced aircraft that Israel’s military does not have in its fleet.

“The United States controls the bomber and the bomb,” John Spencer, chair of urban warfare studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point military academy, told The NY Post.

According to a 2013 Wall Street Journal report, the U.S. spent more than $500 million developing the weapon, which was engineered to reach the depths of the Fordow facility and obliterate the critical centrifuges housed inside. At the time, 20 units were reportedly produced for U.S. military use.

Another class of bunker-busting ordnance, the GBU-37, weighs in at 5,000 pounds — significantly smaller than the GBU-57A/B.

“By weight and kinetic force, the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator is designed to penetrate a certain amount of distance into the ground before it blows,” said Spencer.

“That’s why these bunker busters are called Penetrators. They penetrate the ground before they explode. The explosion is strategically delayed.”

While Washington has provided Israel with lighter bunker-busting munitions, it has consistently withheld the Massive Ordnance Penetrator from any of its allies.

“I’ve seen 500-pounders, and they’ll shake your teeth when they go off. It’s like an earthquake,” said Spencer. “This will be much more than that.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Warns US Strikes Will Have ‘Everlasting Consequences’

Matzav -

Iran’s top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, issued a stern warning to the United States following President Trump’s airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. He vowed that Tehran would respond and declared that the repercussions of the attack would be long-lasting.

Calling out the U.S. directly, Araghchi posted on X: “The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations.”

He went on to say, “The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” accusing Washington of defying global norms.

Araghchi also underscored Tehran’s right to defend itself, writing, “In accordance with the UN Charter and its provisions allowing a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”

Pete Hegseth: ‘Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions Have Been Obliterated’

Matzav -

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth held a press briefing after the recent American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, describing the mission as an “incredible and overwhelming success.”

Hegseth asserted, “we devastated the Iranian nuclear program. But it’s worth noting that the operation did not target Iranian troops or the Iranian people. For the entirety of his time in office, President Trump has consistently stated that Iran must not get a nuclear weapon. Thanks to President Trump’s bold and visionary leadership, and his commitment to peace through strength, Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been obliterated.”

He continued by emphasizing the historic nature of the decision, stating, “many presidents have dreamed about delivering the final blow to Iran’s nuclear program, and none could until President Trump.”

Hegseth stressed that Tehran had been clearly warned about the limited time frame for diplomacy. “Iran found out that when POTUS says 60 days of peace and negotiations, he means 60 days of peace and negotiations; otherwise, that nuclear program will not exist. He meant it. He seeks peace, and Iran should take that path.”

Echoing President Trump’s warning to Iran, Hegseth cautioned against any retaliatory actions. Trump had previously stated that Iran would be “met with a force much greater than what was witnessed tonight.”

The defense secretary praised the commanders and personnel who made the strike possible, including close coordination with Israel. “This is a plan that took months and weeks of positioning and preparation so that we could be ready when the President of the United States called. It took a great deal of precision. It involved misdirection and the highest level of operational security.”

He offered details on the covert nature of the operation, noting: “Our B-2s went in and out of these nuclear sites and back without the world knowing at all. In that way, it was historic.”

Hegseth pointed out that this was the longest B-2 Spirit Bomber deployment since 2001 and marked the first combat use of the Massive Ordnance Penetrator. “The mission demonstrated to the world the level of joint and allied integration that speaks to the strength of our alliance of our joint forces.”

While making it clear that war is not the United States’ objective, Hegseth pledged that America will act when provoked. “We will act swiftly and decisively when our people, our partners, or our interests are threatened. Iran should listen to the United States and know that it means every word.”

VP Vance, Sec. Rubio Warn Iran: If You Retaliate, It Will Be The End Of The Ayatollah’s Regime [VIDEOS]

Yeshiva World News -

The morning after the United States launched a surprise air campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, top American officials hailed the mission as a decisive success — and delivered stern warnings to Tehran against further escalation. Vice President J.D. Vance praised the operation, dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, declaring: “We destroyed the Iranian nuclear program… and we did it without endangering the lives of American pilots. That’s an incredible thing.” Vance emphasized that the mission was not a prelude to war but rather a bold act of prevention. “We do not want war with Iran. We actually want peace — but we want peace in the context of them not having a nuclear weapons program. And that’s exactly what the President accomplished last night.” In unusually blunt language, Vance added, “We’re prepared in the event that the Iranians do retaliate, but… if the Iranians want to enlarge this by attacking American troops, I think that would be a catastrophic mistake.” Despite growing speculation, Vance insisted that “we don’t want to achieve regime change, we want to achieve the end of the Iranian nuclear program.” Asked whether potential Iranian disruptions to oil shipping in the Strait of Hormuz would trigger another U.S. response, Vance replied, “If they want to destroy their own economy and cause disruptions in the world, that would be their decision. But why would they do that?” Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed the warnings, saying, “If Iran retaliates, it’ll be the worst mistake they ever made.” He added that the U.S. now has the ability to “fly in and out of Iran at will,” thanks to the Israeli Air Force’s relentless nine-day bombardment of Iranian air defenses, involving over 1,200 precision strikes. Rubio said Iran had miscalculated. “They thought they could do with President Trump what they’ve done with presidents in the past and get away with it — and they found out last night that they can’t. This is a president who tells you what he’s going to do, and then he does it.” Rubio added: “Why does Hamas exist? Because of Iran… Who built the IEDs that maimed and killed American soldiers in Iraq? Iran. They’re behind every problem in this region… Imagine those people having a nuclear weapon… That is unacceptable.” In Israel, President Yitzchak Herzog pushed back against accusations that Israel was driving the U.S. toward broader conflict. “We’re not dragging America into a war,” Herzog said in an interview with CNN. “This was a joint effort to eliminate an existential threat. As for regime change — that’s not any of the official goals of this war. But it would be a very blessed side effect.” Herzog acknowledged that while Iran’s nuclear program may not be fully dismantled, “it’s been hit very hard — both by the Israeli attacks and absolutely by the American attacks overnight.” Former National Security Advisor John Bolton weighed in, suggesting that the shock of the coordinated U.S.-Israeli assault may push the Iranian regime to the brink. “We’re on the verge of potentially seeing regime change in Iran,” Bolton said. “I think Trump made the right decision for America.” (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)

IDF Recovers Three Hostage Bodies From Gaza Strip

Matzav -

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it had recovered the bodies of three hostages from Gaza.

The hostages were identified as Yonatan Samerano, Shay Levinson, and Ofra Keidar. All three had been held by Hamas since the deadly onslaught of October 7, and their deaths were confirmed by the IDF.

Ofra Keidar, age 71, was killed alongside her husband, Sami, during the Hamas massacre at Kibbutz Be’eri. Her body was abducted and taken into Gaza. She was a mother of three. In December 2023, the military officially confirmed her death.

Keidar had been one of only two known female hostages still held by Hamas at the time. The other, Inbar Haiman, also died in captivity, a fact her family confirmed in December 2023.

Yonatan Samerano, 21, had been attending the Nova Music Festival near Re’im when the attacks unfolded. He escaped toward Kibbutz Be’eri, where he was killed and subsequently taken into Gaza by Hamas gunmen.

Shay Levinson served as a tank commander in the IDF’s 77th “Oz” Battalion, part of the 7th Armored Brigade. Although he was killed during the Hamas incursion on October 7, the military was only able to confirm his death in January 2024.

Reports indicate that Levinson was stationed in a tank unit that came under attack during Hamas’s early-morning infiltration that day. Before his crew was overrun, they managed to fire multiple shells and eliminate roughly 15 terrorists.

In a formal statement, Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu extended condolences to the bereaved families and expressed gratitude to those involved in the mission.

“Together with all the citizens of Israel, my wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to the dear families and share in their profound sorrow,” he said.

“I thank our commanders and soldiers for a successful operation, for their determination, and their courage,” Netanyahu added.

He reaffirmed Israel’s ongoing efforts to secure the return of all hostages. “The campaign to return the hostages continues without pause and is being carried out alongside the campaign against Iran.”

“We will not rest until all our hostages—both the living and the fallen—are brought home,” Netanyahu concluded.

Later that day, the military reported that IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir had commended the forces involved in the recovery operation, which is taking place alongside the broader Operation Rising Lion.

He noted that “the IDF shares in the sorrow of the bereaved families and will continue to operate utilizing all available efforts to bring the hostages home.”

Satellite Imagery Shows Massive Craters At Fordow, Pointing To Use Of Bunker Busters

Yeshiva World News -

US airstrikes on Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility appear to have left at least six large craters, pointing to the use of bunker busting bombs, a CNN analysis of satellite imagery found. The images captured by satellite company Maxar showed six visible, separate impact craters in two nearby locations at Fordow — a highly secretive site buried deep in the mountains. The craters can be seen along a ridge running over the underground complex. Earlier Sunday, a US official confirmed to CNN the US had used B-2 bomber planes to drop more than a dozen massive “bunker buster” bombs as part of the attack on Fordow and two other nuclear sites. These weapons can penetrate deep underground before detonating and are seen as essential for targeting the facility, much of which is buried beneath the ground. Satellite imagery also showed significant changes to the color of the mountainside where the site is housed, indicating a vast area was covered with a layer of grey ash in the aftermath of the strikes. As of yet, the level of damage to the underground facility is unclear.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Attempted To Murder Israelis In Cyprus

Yeshiva World News -

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar revealed on Motzei Shabos that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attempted to murder Israelis in Cyprus. Ynet reported that Cypriot police thwarted the plan by arresting a man suspected of planning an imminent terror attack against Israelis on the island. “Thanks to the activity of the Cypriot security authorities, in cooperation with Israeli security services, the terror attack was thwarted,” Sa’ar wrote on X. Israel’s Channel 12 reported last week that Israeli intelligence officials received information indicating that Iran is attempting to attack Israeli targets abroad, including the locations where Israeli airplanes were evacuated. The Shin Bet increased forces in Europe in order to thwart potential attacks. The suspect also allegedly gathered intelligence on British military bases on the island. Ynet reported last week that intelligence officials of an unnamed country had information indicating that Iran may fire missiles at British bases in Cyprus. Iran has accused the UK of aiding Israel with gathering intelligence and intercepting Iranian missiles. According to Cypriot media, the suspect is a UK citizen of Azerbaijani origin with ties to the IRGC who arrived in Cyprus in April and began spying on foreign military forces on the island country. In recent days, Cypriot police have increased security patrols in areas where Israeli tourists are staying out of fears they will be targeted for an attack. Tens of thousands of Israelis who were stranded abroad when the war with Iran began traveled to the island to await rescue flights or ships to bring them home. Security has been bolstered in shuls and hotels, mainly in Larnaca and Paphos, and at international airports, Ynet reported. (YWN Israel Desk—Jerusalem)
