Rav Shmuel Shmelka Klein zt”l of Ramat Shlomo Niftar Suddenly at 70

The Torah community of Ramat Shlomo in Yerushalayim is mourning the sudden petirah of Rav Shmuel Shmelka Klein zt”l, one of the neighborhood’s respected talmidei chachomim, who was niftar at the age of 70.

Rav Shmuel Shmelka was born on 26 Sivan 5716/1956 to his father, Rav Yaakov Yisroel Klein zt”l of Bnei Brak.

Upon reaching marriageable age, he married his wife, the daughter of Rav Nochum Tzvi Kaztzkow zt”l.

Throughout his life, Rav Shmuel Shmelka devoted himself with exceptional diligence to limud haTorah. Those who knew him describe a person whose life revolved around Torah and avodas Hashem, and who was beloved by those around him for the warmth and pleasant countenance with which he greeted others.

Friends and acquaintances recalled an elevated personality who continued serving Hashem faithfully despite considerable yissurim that he endured over the years. He accepted his suffering with emunah and without complaint, while continuing his dedication to Torah and avodas Hashem.

His sudden petirah during Chol Hamoed Sukkos came as a profound shock to his family, friends and the many people who knew him in the Ramat Shlomo community.

The levayah was held today, the second day of Chol Hamoed Sukkos, at 3:30 p.m. from his home at 3 Lopian Street in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Yerushalayim. From there, the levayah proceeded to Har Hazeisim for kevurah.

Rav Shmuel Shmelka leaves behind his grieving family, including members of the Klein, Broide, Stenger, Heiman and Zaritzky families.

The family will sit shivah at his home following Yom Tov.

Yehi zichro boruch.
