Third Bais Hamikdosh: Ready or Not?

By Rabbi Berach Steinfeld

The Gemara in Taanis 17b says that the Chachomim forbade Kohanim to drink wine in our times because the Bais Hamikdash may be returned to us at any moment. If a Kohen is drunk, he would not be eligible to perform the avodah in the Bais Hamikdash.

Tosfos (s.v. Ba’inan) raises an important question. Even if the Kohanim are sober when the Bais Hamikdash is rebuilt, they still would not be able to perform the avodah, as they are all tamei meis and require the ashes of the parah adumah to be sprinkled on them on the third and seventh day. Tosfos answers that the avodah may still be done because of the principle of tumah hutra betzibbur—when the majority of Klal Yisroel is tamei, the avodah may be performed in that state.

This leads to another question. Why, during the time of the neis of Chanukah, did they search for pure olive oil if the majority of Klal Yisroel was tamei? Shouldn’t tumah hutra betzibbur have applied? The answer is that a new Menorah had been crafted in the days of the Chashmonaim (as mentioned in Avodah Zarah 43a), and the avodah being done was a chinuch—an inauguration of the new kailim. In a case of chinuch avodah, the rule of tumah hutra betzibbur does not apply.

Following this logic, another question emerges: When the third Bais Hamikdash arrives, won’t we face the same situation of chinuch? And if so, why does the Gemara say the Kohanim may not drink wine, if their tumah would anyway disqualify them due to the chinuch status?

To answer this, we must distinguish between the time of the Chashmonaim and the era of the third Bais Hamikdash. We are taught that the kailim of the Mishkan made by Moshe Rabbeinu were never destroyed, only hidden. The posuk states, “Vayimshacheim, Vayekadesh Osam,” and the Midrash explains that this meshicha—this anointing—was for both Olam Hazeh and Olam Haba. It follows, then, that when the third Bais Hamikdash comes, it will be accompanied by the original kailim and will not require a new chinuch.

Therefore, the restriction for Kohanim to refrain from drinking wine remains in effect, as the principle of tumah hutra betzibbur will indeed apply. The third Bais Hamikdash will descend from Heaven ready to function, without the need for re-inauguration.

May we be zocheh to see the Bais Hamikdosh rebuilt, bimheira biyomeinu!

JUSTICE IN FALLSBURG: Three Arrested for Throwing Eggs at Jews in the Catskills

Three people from Napanoch have been taken into custody after allegedly pelting passing Jewish vehicles, Jewish pedestrians, and road signs with eggs during two separate episodes along Route 42 in South Fallsburg in the Catskills.

The people—identified as 22-year-old Jessica Hoek, 21-year-old Ryan Hoek, and 18-year-old Steele Dolan—now face charges of harassment and criminal tampering.

The series of events unfolded shortly before midnight on June 29, when the Town of Fallsburg Police were alerted that someone had thrown eggs at a parked car on Route 42 in South Fallsburg. The eggs were reportedly hurled from a car moving in the direction of Woodbourne.

Not long after, authorities received a second complaint stating that people walking on Route 42 in Woodbourne had also been hit by eggs.

Investigators and patrol officers from Fallsburg Police reviewed area surveillance footage, which helped them track down the car believed to be involved. The footage revealed that the egg-throwing spree had extended from the Town of Thompson all the way to Woodbourne, targeting vehicles and road signs along the route.

The suspects were ultimately identified, arraigned in court, and are now awaiting a future appearance in Fallsburg Town Court.

Jeffries: Dems in NY, CA, NJ Will ‘Make Sure’ Congressional Maps ‘Fair As Possible’

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) appeared on CNN’s “Inside Politics” on Monday and addressed the topic of redistricting, stating that Democrats in key states like New York, California, and New Jersey are focused on ensuring the fairness of congressional maps.

When the conversation turned to Republican efforts in Texas, Jeffries accused the GOP of fearing the electorate. “They have no credible track record of success that’s why House Republicans are afraid of the voters in 2026, in the midterm elections. And they’re trying to cheat to win,” he said.

CNN’s Manu Raju brought up the push by some Democrats in New York to redraw district boundaries to increase the number of Democratic seats. “I’ve talked to some members of your delegation, Democrats who want New York to change the maps to try to add seats, Democratic seats in New York. Would you support that effort in your state?” Raju asked.

Jeffries replied, “Let me just simply say the maps in New York are not as fair as they could be.”

Raju pressed further, questioning whether Democrats would be guilty of the same gerrymandering tactics they accuse Republicans of employing. “You just accused Republicans of rigging the election by changing the lines in the middle of the decade. Wouldn’t Democrats be doing the same thing?”

Jeffries responded by reiterating the party’s broader goal. “Well, we’re committed to doing as Democrats in New York, in California, in New Jersey, across the country, is make sure that the congressional maps are as fair as possible.”

Kiddush Hashem in Action: Chessed from New Jersey to the Skies

Two recent incidents in the United States—one on the ground and one mid-flight—have garnered significant attention online, showcasing the selfless kindness of frum Jews and creating a powerful kiddush Hashem that resonated far beyond the confines of their communities.

The first event unfolded in Jackson, New Jersey, a township that has seen growing tension in recent years between the established non-Jewish population and the expanding frum community. Last Wednesday night, a bolt of lightning struck a group of locals at an amusement park, killing one person and injuring 14 others. One of the critically wounded was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center by ambulance, but the vehicle broke down en route.

With the victim’s life hanging in the balance, a call for immediate assistance was dispatched. It was members of the local Hatzolah who responded first, without hesitation. The frum volunteers swiftly arrived, transferred the injured non-Jewish woman to their ambulance, and successfully transported her to the hospital for further treatment.

A popular local news station with hundreds of thousands of listeners featured the story, praising Hatzolah’s volunteers for their professionalism and compassion. The report specifically countered a commonly heard accusation that Hatzolah helps only Jews. The story prompted a wave of online reactions from non-Jews who shared their own experiences of being helped by Hatzolah members. “This,” one commenter wrote, “is what Judaism looks like.”

The second episode took place in the air. A Jewish man from Jackson was flying back from Atlanta to Newark, seated in first class. A flight attendant approached him and asked if he’d be willing to give up his seat so a mother and daughter could sit together. Without a moment’s hesitation, he agreed and moved to the economy section, where he was seated next to an elderly non-Jewish couple.

Divine providence became evident shortly after takeoff, when the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Albany, New York. All passengers were evacuated, and the Jewish passenger noticed that the older couple beside him appeared disoriented and unsure of what to do. Upon learning that they, too, needed to get to Jackson, he offered to share his private car service with them.

During the ride, the couple opened up, explaining that they were on their way to visit their daughter—who, ironically, had recently expressed frustration about the influx of Jewish residents in Jackson. “After what you just did for us,” they told him, “we’re going to tell her how Jews really behave. Maybe she’ll start looking at her neighbors differently.”

These two simple stories, deeply human and unspectacular in their details, reveal the true nobility of everyday chessed done without fanfare and without expectation of reward.

It’s what Yidden are all about.

White House: Trump Prioritizing Hostage Release In Gaza

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Monday that President Donald Trump is actively working toward ending the conflict in Gaza by pushing for a ceasefire. Leavitt explained that Trump is deeply troubled by the ongoing bloodshed.

“The president never likes to see that. He wants the killing to end, and he wants to negotiate a ceasefire in this region,” she told reporters. Leavitt pointed out that the fighting has intensified recently, with a sharp rise in casualties.

She also emphasized that bringing home the hostages held in Gaza remains a central goal for President Trump.

“That has been a top priority for this president,” Leavitt affirmed.

When asked whether Trump had voiced dissatisfaction with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu after recent IDF operations in Gaza, Leavitt highlighted the rapport between the two leaders.

“The president enjoys a good working relationship with Netanyahu and stays in frequent communication with him,” she said. “He was caught off guard by the bombing in Syria and also by the bombing of the Catholic church in Gaza. In both cases, the president quickly called the prime minister to rectify those situations.”

Leavitt’s remarks came as momentum appears to be building toward a possible ceasefire and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas. While negotiations have been progressing in Doha for several weeks, the parties have yet to finalize a deal.

At a White House dinner with lawmakers on Friday evening, Trump revealed that another group of ten hostages was expected to be released soon, though he did not mention a date for their return. He also took the opportunity to commend his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, for his role in the diplomatic push.

On Sunday, Israeli officials expressed hope that Hamas would soon approve the revised IDF deployment proposal in Gaza, which could pave the way for an agreement on the hostages.
A source familiar with the negotiations told Kan News, “we can reach the long-awaited breakthrough for a deal within a few days.”

Israel’s revised proposal reportedly includes meaningful concessions. Among the adjustments are changes to the Morag Corridor and modifications in troop placements within Gaza, aimed at addressing Hamas’s concerns.

A senior IDF figure expressed optimism, saying, “I hope that this week we’ll have a deal. The IDF recommends to the political echelon to reach a deal, there is a great desire on both sides.”

However, on Monday, a diplomatic source warned that Israel has reached the limits of its flexibility and will not offer further compromises regarding the troop withdrawal maps.

The official insisted that it is now up to Hamas to agree to the presented terms, which would put an end to the conflict and bring relief to the residents of Gaza.

Iran Launches Satellite Rocket In First Test Since June War

Iran conducted a suborbital launch on Monday using its Ghased satellite carrier, marking the country’s first such action since the recent truce with Israel brought an end to nearly two weeks of hostilities. That conflict also saw American strikes on nuclear-linked locations inside Iran.

According to the state-run IRNA news outlet, the purpose of the launch was to “assess some emerging new technologies in the country’s space industry,” with findings from the test expected to support the further growth of Iran’s satellite and aerospace sectors.

The report did not specify the location of the launch or provide additional technical information.

Originally introduced by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in 2020, the Ghased rocket—powered by both liquid and solid propellants—successfully deployed a military satellite into orbit, according to a report by The Associated Press. Western nations, however, have long suspected that Iran’s space program is a front for advancing ballistic missile capabilities.

Iran has a history of attempting satellite launches. In September 2024, officials claimed a successful satellite launch using a rocket manufactured by the IRGC.

The year prior, the country launched another satellite using an IRGC-developed carrier.

In January 2022, Iranian leadership announced that a solid-fuel satellite launch vehicle built by the Revolutionary Guard had reached space and performed as intended.

The previous month, Iran reported it had sent three experimental satellites into orbit aboard a Simorgh rocket, as per a statement from Defense Ministry spokesman Ahmad Hosseini.

However, that claim was tempered the next day, when Iranian authorities acknowledged that the rocket failed to achieve the velocity necessary to insert the satellites into orbit.

The United States and allied nations have strongly criticized Iran’s space launch activity, arguing that such missions violate United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231. That resolution, part of the 2015 nuclear agreement with global powers including the U.S., Russia, and European nations, urges Iran to refrain for up to eight years from developing ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman to Children: “I’m Already an Old Jew—And There Is Nothing But Torah”

In a moving encounter, the venerated rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rashbi, Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman, delivered heartfelt words to a group of young talmidim from Talmud Torah Sukkas Dovid who visited his home to receive a brachah ahead of their transition to yeshivos ketanos.

The children, accompanied by their rabbeim and school administration, were warmly welcomed by Rav Bergman, who addressed them with powerful and stirring words about the essence of life and the centrality of Torah.

“I’m already an old Jew,” Rav Bergman began. “I have a long past. I want you to know, I’ve gone through many events, experienced many things. But I want to tell you something. If I can sum it all up for myself—it’s that there is nothing else besides the holy Torah.”

He continued with deep emotion: “Rabbosai, there is nothing else. ‘Chazek bamussar al teref’—do not let go. Because this is our life. Think about it—Torah is life itself. In short, two things, that’s what I can tell you. If I tried to define it differently, it wouldn’t be true. What is true is that HaKadosh Baruch Hu gave us the Torah, and someone with understanding grabs onto it. This is our life. ‘Chazek bamussar al teref, netzra ki hi chayecha’—there is nothing else.

“If someone tells you something different, gives you a different ‘pasuk’ to live by—that’s the whole story. No, no, no, no. Not only is he wrong—he doesn’t even know what to hold onto. Oy, little children—‘Chazek bamussar al teref, netzra ki hi chayecha’—there is nothing else. HaKadosh Baruch Hu should have mercy on all of Klal Yisroel, we need mercy. But the point, I’ll say it briefly—hold on. There is nothing else. May HaKadosh Baruch Hu help all of Klal Yisroel.”

Dozens Stranded Outside Beitar Illit After Shabbos Gate Closure

Just before Shabbos began on Friday evening, numerous individuals — including families with young children — were left stranded outside Beitar Illit when the city’s main gate was shut twenty minutes before sunset.

Footage shared by Arutz Sheva captured about twenty cars backed up at the entrance, with the gate locked and no entry permitted. The footage was taken after kabbalas Shabbos time had begun, but before actual nightfall — a window during which certain prohibited actions may still be allowed if circumstances leave no alternative.

In the clips, men, women, and children — some pushing strollers, others burdened with bags and suitcases — can be seen trekking on foot toward Beitar Illit. Many were forced to carry their belongings a considerable distance, making what should have been a peaceful Shabbos arrival into a physically demanding journey.

Upon investigation, Arutz Sheva learned that the early closure is not new. In fact, the policy of locking the gate twenty minutes prior to sunset has been in place for some time. According to municipal officials, the directive comes at the instruction of the city’s rabbinic leadership.

Maor Ktuvim, who filmed the scene, recounted the ordeal to Arutz Sheva, describing how scores of people — with no other option — made the difficult and tiring walk into the city. He emphasized that the area near the gate is considered hazardous, and many travelers were reluctant to leave their cars parked on the roadside out of fear for their safety.

He further noted that a traffic accident on the main road from Yerushalayim delayed many of those heading to Beitar Illit, resulting in a bottleneck of latecomers arriving just as the gate was closing.

Ultimately, many had no choice but to abandon their vehicles outside the city and make their way on foot to wherever they were staying.

While the municipality points to signage at the entrance that declares the city closed to incoming traffic on Shabbos and yomim tovim, some residents voiced frustration to Arutz Sheva, arguing that the policy should be adjusted to reflect practical access realities. They suggested that cars should be allowed to enter up until actual sunset.

This issue echoes a legal case from several years ago, when a driver ticketed for operating his car shortly after the start of Shabbos in the Jewish Quarter of Yerushalayim was found not guilty. The judge ruled that the term “Shabbat” was never legally defined in legislation.

In the judge’s words, “The message conveyed by the road sign is not sufficiently clear, raising doubt regarding the defendant’s guilt. I believe the phrase ‘Shabbatot and holidays’ is ambiguous and allows for more than one interpretation, thereby creating reasonable doubt in favor of the defendant.”

Iranian FM: Enrichment is ‘Dear to Us’, No Plans to Stop

Iran has no plans to halt its uranium enrichment program, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in an upcoming Fox News interview set to air Monday night.

In a discussion with host Bret Baier, Araghchi dismissed American pressure to abandon the program, emphasizing that uranium enrichment represents both a scientific and symbolic accomplishment for the country.

“We cannot give up enrichment because it is an achievement of our own scientists,” Araghchi said. “And now, more than that, it is a question of national pride. Our enrichment is so dear to us.”

He further confirmed that recent U.S. airstrikes inflicted heavy damage on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. While he did not elaborate on whether any stored enriched uranium had survived, he did admit the assault was highly disruptive.

“Our facilities have been damaged – seriously damaged,” he noted, explaining that the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization is still assessing the situation. At present, enrichment operations have been paused.

This interview follows Iran’s announcement that it will meet with Britain, France, and Germany in Istanbul on Friday for renewed nuclear negotiations.

Tehran is under mounting pressure to finalize a nuclear agreement by the end of August or face escalating sanctions and weapons embargoes. It remains to be seen whether such a deal will necessitate U.S. involvement or proceed solely with European nations.

American officials are not expected to attend the Istanbul discussions. The targeted U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear network brought previous backchannel negotiations—mediated by Oman—to a standstill.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy issued a stern warning last week, cautioning that Europe will impose “dramatic sanctions” on Iran if it continues to block nuclear oversight and fails to restore transparency.

In response to a recent military confrontation with Israel that lasted nearly two weeks and included major Israeli and U.S. bombardments of Iranian nuclear sites, Iran ended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iranian officials argue that a resolution passed by the IAEA board last month—which accused Tehran of violating its commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty—set the stage for the Israeli air raids that followed.

AOC’s Headquarters Vandalized With Anti-Israel Graffiti

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district office in the Bronx was defaced on Sunday with anti-Israel messages and red paint, according to a report by the New York Post.

The vandalism included a large splash of red paint across the building and a sign reading “AOC funds genocide in Gaza” prominently displayed near the entrance.

An organization identifying itself as the Boogie Down Liberation Front publicly claimed responsibility for the incident.

In a statement released afterward, the group declared, “The Bronx is sick and tired of people like AOC and Ritchie Torres using us as a stepping stone for their own political careers. The Bronx stands with the people of Palestine and we denounce the hypocrisy of AOC who voted to fund Israel’s ongoing genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza. [Curse] AOC!”

The activists appeared to be responding to Ocasio-Cortez’s opposition to a proposed amendment introduced last week by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. The measure would have slashed nearly $500 million in U.S. aid to Israel, including $60 million earmarked for the Iron Dome defense system. That amendment was overwhelmingly defeated in the House, 422-6, with Ocasio-Cortez among the 207 Democrats who voted against it.

Ocasio-Cortez, known for her membership in the far-left group known as the “Squad,” has consistently voiced strong criticism of Israel.

In 2023, she accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Defending her remarks on CNN, she stated that the humanitarian crisis in the region had “crossed the threshold of intent.”

Even with her repeated denunciations of Israel, Ocasio-Cortez has come under fire from radical anti-Israel circles who believe she doesn’t go far enough. In the days leading up to her genocide comments, she was confronted by demonstrators at a Brooklyn movie theater, who demanded she unequivocally accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza.

Tension Builds in the Torah World as Ponovezh Yeshiva Entrance Exams Conclude

An atmosphere of heightened anticipation has descended upon the Torah world as Ponovezh Yeshiva concludes its rigorous entrance exams for the incoming Shiur Alef class. With close to 600 applicants tested over the past three weeks, attention now turns to the intensive internal meeting in which yeshiva leadership will determine who among these top-tier candidates will be admitted to one of the most prestigious yeshivos in the Torah world.

The entrance exams officially wrapped up today, following a demanding multi-phase process. Each bochur underwent four separate evaluations—one from the rosh hayeshiva, Rav Eliezer Kahaneman, two from senior ramim, and a personal interview with a mashgiach.

On Wednesday, the hanhalah will convene for a marathon session lasting over six hours at the home of Rav Kahaneman, who has overseen the admissions process for nearly three decades. During this closed-door meeting, the rabbonim will carefully review the test scores, rankings, and assessments of every individual applicant before finalizing the list of those who will be granted a place in the yeshiva.

In recent years, this meeting has typically been held on Friday when the ramim have more flexibility due to the lack of scheduled shiurim. However, given the enormous number of applicants this year and the need to reject approximately 150 of them, the yeshiva moved the meeting earlier to Wednesday. This allows roshei yeshiva ketanos sufficient time to reassign boys who do not make the Ponovezh cut.

The admissions logistics are being coordinated by Rav Menachem Eschayek, Rav Kahaneman’s close assistant, with help from Rav Zlotnik and Rav Zelig Diskin—talmidim of the late rosh yeshiva, Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l—who oversee registration and maintain communication with over 100 roshei yeshiva ketanos who send their best bochurim to apply.

Ponovezh has in recent years emerged as a veritable Torah empire, with a student body now exceeding 2,000. Each shiur includes nearly 400 bochurim, and this year, that number may surge to nearly 500. Yeshivos from across the country, particularly in Yerushalayim, send large cohorts of their finest students. Institutions such as Kol Torah L’Tzeirim, Tiferes HaTalmud (Shenker), Imrei Moshe, and Tzvibel each contribute dozens of candidates annually.

What sets Ponovezh apart is its remarkable diversity. Boys of all styles and backgrounds—from more open Yerushalmi types to those with a stricter, more reserved approach—find a place for themselves within its walls. Shiurim are filled with every personality type, from the quiet and contemplative to the animated and intense, creating an environment in which every bochur can grow into a talmid chacham and dedicated lamdan.

To support this growth, the yeshiva employs a dedicated team of avreichim led by Rav Asher Steigl. Their mission is to ensure that each student finds his place, matching him with suitable chavrusos and peer groups with thoughtful precision and care.

As the results of the entrance exams are set to be released late Wednesday night, a mix of anxiety and hope fills the hearts of the applicants and their families. Those who are not accepted—often referred to in yeshiva circles as nefilim—are swiftly scooped up by other top-tier institutions that recognize the caliber of these young men.

In fact, some of today’s most prominent new yeshivos have been founded and built from the ranks of those not admitted to Ponovezh. In an ironic twist, it can be said that Ponovezh, in turning down some applicants, indirectly fuels the continued expansion and flourishing of the Torah world by enabling the growth of new batei medrash across the country.

Trump Admin Releases 230,000 Pages of MLK Assassination Files Detailing FBI’s Probe Into Case

This afternoon, the Trump administration made public a massive collection of files connected to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968.

“Today, after nearly 60 years of questions surrounding the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are releasing 230,000 MLK assassination files,” Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced on X.

Gabbard explained that the release was a coordinated effort with the Department of Justice, the CIA, the FBI, and the National Archives. The materials shed light on the federal probe into the killing of the 39-year-old civil rights leader at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

The newly available records include details such as conversations between James Earl Ray, King’s convicted killer, and a former fellow inmate, in which an alleged plot to assassinate King was reportedly discussed. The files also touch on additional leads the FBI pursued following the murder, according to Gabbard.

“The American people have waited nearly sixty years to see the full scope of the federal government’s investigation into Dr. King’s assassination,” Gabbard said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are ensuring that no stone is left unturned in our mission to deliver complete transparency on this pivotal and tragic event in our nation’s history.”

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the King family for their support.”

This disclosure follows an executive order signed by President Trump in January that mandated the release of classified documents relating to the assassinations of Dr. King, President John F. Kennedy, and Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

U.S. Deploys Nuclear Weapons to Britain in Signal to Russia

As tensions continue to rise due to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s obstruction of peace efforts in Ukraine, the United States has reportedly stationed nuclear arms in the United Kingdom for the first time in nearly twenty years.

This information comes from the open-source intelligence platform OSINTdefender, as well as the U.K. Defense Journal.

“For the first time since at least 2005, U.S. nuclear weapons have been deployed onto the territory of the United Kingdom, with sources reporting that several B61-12 Thermonuclear Gravity Bombs were transferred this week from the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, to the newly-built nuclear weapons storage facility at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England,” the X post read.

According to the post, “The B61-12 is an advanced low-yield ‘tactical’ nuclear gravity bomb that is able to be equipped by a number of aircraft, including the F-35A Lightning II, which is flown by both 493rd Fighter Squadron and 495th Fighter Squadron based at Lakenheath.”

The U.K. Defense Journal noted that this may mark the first deployment of American nuclear weaponry in the U.K. since 2008. While the U.S. Department of Defense has remained silent on the matter, the British Ministry of Defence also traditionally refrains from confirming or denying specifics regarding the location or movement of nuclear arms.

The deployment news closely follows a new nuclear agreement between France and Britain. Both countries recently committed to bolstering their joint efforts to safeguard Europe through their nuclear capabilities, with the ever-growing Russian threat at the heart of the decision.

“This morning, we signed the Northward declaration, confirming for the first time that we are coordinating our independent nuclear deterrence,” U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer told a news conference alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

Currently, the U.K., France, and the U.S. are the only NATO members to possess nuclear weapons. These developments came shortly after a NATO summit in June and a recent series of meetings with President Donald Trump’s administration.

In total, seven NATO countries contribute aircraft to the alliance’s nuclear deterrent program, including jets capable of carrying conventional arms or U.S. B61 nuclear bombs stored across European bases.

The United Kingdom recently announced a major move to expand its nuclear readiness. In late June, it finalized plans to purchase a dozen U.S.-manufactured F-35A fighter planes, aircraft that are compatible with nuclear payloads. With this purchase, Britain will officially join NATO’s airborne nuclear sharing mission.

“The biggest strengthening of the U.K.’s nuclear posture in a generation,” the U.K. Prime Minister hailed.

Starmer revealed this plan while attending the NATO summit in the Netherlands. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte praised the move, describing it as “yet another robust British contribution to NATO.”

Back in the 1990s, the U.K. had retired its air-based atomic bombs, shifting entirely to submarine-launched missiles after the Cold War. The latest steps represent a return to aerial nuclear delivery capabilities not seen in decades.

These developments also occur against the backdrop of a 60-day ceasefire agreement brokered by Trump and Israel, aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, representatives from Iran, Britain, France, and Germany will meet in Istanbul on Friday for renewed nuclear discussions. This comes after the European parties warned they would push for reimposed international sanctions if negotiations do not restart or yield progress.

The three European signatories—along with China and Russia—remain part of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a deal that was spearheaded by President Barack Obama and lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for nuclear limitations. The U.S. pulled out of the accord in 2018.

European leaders have now threatened to invoke the “snapback” clause to restore U.N. sanctions if the Iran talks do not resume or result in concrete agreements before the end of August.

“If EU/E3 want to have a role, they should act responsibly, and put aside the worn-out policies of threat and pressure, including the ‘snap-back’ for which they lack absolutely [any] moral and legal ground,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

The snapback mechanism allows any signatory to unilaterally reimpose U.N. sanctions before the current Security Council resolution endorsing the JCPOA expires on October 18.

Prior to the Israel-Iran conflict, Tehran and Washington had engaged in five rounds of indirect talks, with Oman serving as a mediator. Despite those efforts, major disputes—particularly over Iran’s uranium enrichment activities—remained unresolved, as the West seeks to eliminate enrichment to prevent nuclear weaponization.

Separate Seating Added at Ishay Ribo’s Historic Bethel Woods Concert in Upstate NY

[COMMUNICATED]

Separate seating for men and women has officially been added to Ishay Ribo’s upcoming concert at Bethel Woods — the largest outdoor Jewish concert ever held in North America, and his only major performance in the country this year. The update comes after close coordination with Ticketmaster and the venue, helping ensure that this landmark night — set for Thursday, August 7, Yud Gimmel Be’Av — is fully accessible, respectful, and comfortable for all.

With this addition, more guests can enjoy the concert in a setting that reflects their values and adds to the beauty of the experience.

The concert will also feature guest performances by Chassidic music legend Avraham Fried, whose voice has shaped generations of Jewish music; the genre-blending duo Zusha, and rising star Shmuel.

“This will be my first large-scale arena concert in America since Madison Square Garden, which happened the same night the new album came out. That night meant a lot to me. Coming back now, with these songs that have grown and taken on new meaning, and getting to share them again in a setting like this… I just feel very grateful,” Ribo said.

Separate Seating sections are located near the stage within the lawn area and offer the closest lawn access, with a folding chair set up for each guest. Tickets are $76.50 all-in on Ticketmaster ($59.50 base).

  • The Pavilion offers reserved, covered seating directly in front of the stage — an intimate, premium option with excellent sightlines. A limited number of Pavilion seats remain.

  • The Lawn, just behind the Pavilion, is open-air general admission and offers a relaxed, immersive way to enjoy the concert. Guests may bring blankets or low-back chairs, or rent a chair in advance or at the venue for $10, while supplies last.

(To access Men’s or Women’s sections, click on “Lawn” and select your section.)

Free Parking is available on-site, with early arrivals directed to the closest lots. Overflow areas will open as needed, with free shuttles running to and from the main entrance. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Kosher Food will be sold throughout the venue. Near the entrance, Sushi Tokyo, Green Lips, and Ess & Boat. Closer to the lawn, Smash House will offer hot meat options such as burgers and grilled sides. All food will be clearly certified and designed for quick service.

Security will be handled with professionalism and care, following the same high standards as New York’s major arenas — including gated entry, clear bag policies, and trained on-site staff — to ensure a safe and welcoming experience for all.

Yamim Baim is more than a concert — it’s a new moment for Jewish music, bringing together top talent, thoughtful production, and the natural beauty of one of the country’s most meaningful stages. Produced by Davidson Artists Management in partnership with Bnei Akiva of the United States and Canada, the event is a celebration of music, community, and values.

Satmar Rebbe Takes Aim at Soaring Rent Prices in Kiryas Yoel

The Satmar Rebbe, Rav Aharon Teitelbaum, has launched a new initiative targeting the sky-high rental prices in Kiryas Yoel, seeking to ease the burden on young couples preparing to start their lives together. This latest move comes on the heels of the Rebbe’s successful efforts to lower land prices in the growing chassidic enclave.

Kiryas Yoel has faced a severe rental crisis, particularly affecting newly engaged couples. With expectations to secure an apartment up to four months before the wedding, families have been stretched thin by excessive costs, often paying high rent for months when the apartment remains empty. Now, the Rebbe has intervened—and results are already being seen.

Before departing for his customary bein hametzarim trip in New Hampshire, the Rebbe turned his attention to this pressing issue. Following his earlier directive that reduced land prices in the city to $300 per square meter in central areas and $250 on the outskirts, the Rebbe has now addressed rental affordability.

According to sources within the community, the Rebbe has established a new committee, aptly named “Beysi” (“My Home”), tasked with reforming the apartment rental process for young couples in Kiryas Yoel.

A local community activist explained the scope of the problem: “Until now, when a father in Kiryas Yoel made a vort for his daughter, his first concern was finding an apartment. Typically, that meant securing a two- or three-bedroom unit six months before the wedding, with no furnishings. The expenses began to pile up immediately.”

He elaborated, “The father would hire a contractor to renovate and paint the apartment, while both sets of parents had to furnish it with beds, closets, stoves, ovens, and other appliances. These expenses would easily climb to over $25,000 between the two sides.”

“And then,” he continued, “monthly rent payments kicked in—anywhere from $2,000 to $2,500, depending on the size, location, and number of rooms.”

The Rebbe’s new plan aims to eliminate these financial strains. Under the new model, it will be the landlord—not the tenant—who must fully renovate and furnish the apartment, providing a refrigerator, oven, stovetop, closets, and furniture. The apartment would then be made available to the couple just one or two months before the wedding, sparing them four months’ worth of pre-wedding rent.

“Even during that pre-wedding period, the couple won’t need to purchase a single item for the apartment,” the askan noted. “And all this at a reduced monthly rent of $1,500 to $2,000.”

As of this past Sunday, Parshas Mattos-Masei, over 100 fully prepared apartments have already hit the market. The goal is to have at least 200 ready-to-move-in apartments available to the public by Tisha B’Av, in time for the upcoming wedding season.

Likud MKs Call For Sovereignty: Between The Sea and the Jordan There Will Be Only 1 State

A high-level gathering convened at the Knesset on Monday to push for Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. Spearheaded by Likud lawmakers, the event drew participation from cabinet ministers, the Knesset Speaker, members of Knesset, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and other public figures. The conference was organized in collaboration with the Sovereignty Movement, “Israel is Forever,” and other nationalist organizations. Among the ministers present were Yariv Levin, Shlomo Karhi, Eli Cohen, Nir Barkat, and Amichai Chikli. The initiative was led by MKs Keti Shitrit, Dan Illouz, Avichai Boaron, Ariel Kallner, and Moshe Passal. Also in attendance were MKs Michael Malkieli, Tsega Melaku, Ohad Tal, Osher Shekalim, Moshe Saada, Nissim Vaturi, and Zvi Sukkot, as well as Sovereignty Movement leaders Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana opened the proceedings with a strong call to move forward on sovereignty. “Exactly a year ago this week, the Knesset passed a declaration by a majority of 68 MKs stating its opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan. This was not only a principled and up-to-date statement by the legislature, but also a reflection of reality. The occupation didn’t begin in 1967 — it ended. The Jewish people are not, and cannot be, occupiers in a land called Judea for 3,000 years. We can be exiled from it, but thank God, we have returned home.”

He further emphasized that without a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, there can be no safe or defensible Jerusalem, and no central strength to the State of Israel. “Without Judea and Samaria, there is no secure Jerusalem, no stable center for the State of Israel. Our rights to Tel Aviv, Netanya, Jerusalem, and Haifa all rest on our rights in Judea and Samaria. It is Israel’s defense line. Withdrawal from there invites the bloody vision of our enemies. We absolutely must not repeat this mistake. Sovereignty is our present-day ‘Iron Wall.’ Just as Israel applied sovereignty to the Golan Heights despite protests, so too must we apply sovereignty to Judea and Samaria, with God’s help.”

Justice Minister Yariv Levin reflected on what he called a missed opportunity to implement sovereignty in the past, pointing out that all the groundwork had been completed. “We were very close to a major first step toward sovereignty. All the groundwork was done — maps, government infrastructure drafts — everything is ready. Unfortunately, things happened, and the plan was halted. Today, we are once again at a historic opportunity that must not be missed: to apply sovereignty over all of Judea and Samaria — over every community and all the land that belongs to us. Sovereignty will ensure that from now on, there will be no difference between Yitzhar and Ramat HaSharon, between southern Mount Chevron and Tel Aviv. Israel will be one state with full sovereignty. This must happen and must be on the agenda. Swift action is required; we must not give up.”

David Friedman, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Israel during the Trump administration, shared his own regrets about not initiating the sovereignty process during his time in office. “My biggest regret is that during my term we did not manage to start the sovereignty process. On campuses they chant ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ — I say ‘From the river to the sea, Israel will be free.’ The decision to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria is Israel’s alone. During my four years as a diplomat, I saw many people in the U.S. who supported this. But Israel must make the decision and deal with the consequences. I worked on it for months during my term. This is not a whim or land grab — it benefits everyone. If Israel is sovereign there, it can fight terrorism more effectively.”

Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen presented sovereignty as both a historic obligation and a pressing security need. “Between the sea and the Jordan there will be only one state — the State of Israel, the state of the Jewish people. Sovereignty in Judea and Samaria stems primarily from our historical right — it is our ancestral land. Secondly, it’s a security necessity. Wherever we weren’t present, terror nests developed. In this term, we are determined and also have a historic opportunity to apply sovereignty. I’m willing to forgo peace with Saudi Arabia, to forgo normalization — sovereignty comes first. We made peace with Morocco, the UAE, and Bahrain without a Palestinian state. We were supposed to advance peace with Saudi Arabia in early 2024 — also without a Palestinian state. But if we must choose — sovereignty comes first.”

Minister Amichai Chikli invoked the Three Weeks and the memory of Gush Katif’s destruction as he warned against repeating past errors. “We’re now in the ‘Three Weeks’ — and also marking 20 years since the destruction of Gush Katif. That destruction led directly to the collapse of the Gaza envelope. It can be summarized in one sentence: We betrayed the people of Israel, and the land of Israel did not forgive. That’s the essence. We thought abandoning those communities would bring quiet, and instead we reaped disaster.”

MK Keti Shitrit said that sovereignty was a way to restore dignity to those who helped establish Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. “Applying sovereignty is a crucial opportunity to restore honor to the pioneers who, with brave decisions, created something from nothing. Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley are integral parts of our ancestral homeland. There is no more moral act than applying Israeli law to these areas. It is our right — without fear or hesitation. It is our duty to those who fell for the land. We must call clearly: Sovereignty now.”

MK Dan Illouz, head of the Sovereignty Lobby, emphasized that declaring sovereignty was not just symbolic, but necessary to deter outside pressure and affirm Israel’s claim. “Today we are here to decide and declare clearly — the Land of Israel is ours forever. Therefore, we demand immediate sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. As long as we don’t apply sovereignty, we leave the door open for international pressure. Sovereignty isn’t just a political move — it’s a statement that this land is ours. It must happen now. Sovereignty is the key to victory — we can’t win in Gaza while leaving Judea and Samaria uncertain.”

MK Moshe Passal argued that Israel’s illusions about peaceful coexistence with a Palestinian state had crumbled and needed to be replaced by decisive action. “Since October 7, one word keeps coming up — ‘conception.’ But it wasn’t just a word; it was an illusion — that we could coexist with a Palestinian state. We too were part of that illusion. We allowed this idea to float quietly. Awakening from that illusion doesn’t mean more tanks or missiles — it means applying sovereignty to all of Judea, Samaria, and our homeland. After 20 years of right-wing rule, it’s time to erase the Oslo Accords and implement sovereignty.”

MK Avichai Boaron spoke of the divide that currently exists between Jewish and Arab legal realities in the region and called for a unified legal framework under Israeli law. “There are two worlds in Judea and Samaria — one for Jews and one for Arabs. When we were evacuated from Amona, we insisted on building deeper in the territory. That’s our message — we’re staying. There were 6,000 people in the Golan Heights when sovereignty was applied — today there are 529,000 in Judea and Samaria living under Jordanian law. That’s not normal. We must apply Israeli law. Only sovereignty will separate us from the Palestinian Authority’s grip. We must have sovereignty. The State of Israel must have sovereignty. We owe this to our children.”

MK Ariel Kallner expressed urgency in seizing the current momentum and stressed that sovereignty would be a historic victory for the Jewish people. “We returned home — to a home that was stolen from us. Today it’s already a consensus — land division failed. The people of Israel are rising like lions and will win. Some are trying to obscure the connection between Oslo, the disengagement, and October 7. But post-October 7, we must not miss this moment. Sovereignty is the ultimate victory, our guarantee of existence, the fulfillment of the prophets’ vision. The Jewish people are the rightful owners. Before any agreement with Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, this is a rare opportunity that must be seized — to apply sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. That should be our top priority and the materialization of our right to our land. It’s within our reach.”

Major General (res.) Gershon Hacohen offered a military assessment, saying Israel’s security hinges on maintaining control of the key strategic areas in Judea and Samaria. “Jerusalem cannot be defended without the surrounding Jewish communities and without control of the Jordan Valley. The valley is the only buffer protecting Tel Aviv. Communities like Naaleh, Peduel, and Alfei Menashe are essential for the coastal plain’s existence and for major traffic routes like Highway 6. Ben Gurion Airport cannot function without this. Without southern Chevron control, we lose assets in Be’er Sheva and Arad. Sovereignty is essential for all of this. That’s the message to all of Israel.”

Omer Rahamim, who heads the Yesha Council, stated that unlike Israel’s other conflict zones, Judea and Samaria have yet to see a post-October 7 policy change. “Judea and Samaria are the only front among the seven active conflict fronts that hasn’t undergone a strategic shift since October 7. The only way to achieve decisive victory here is through sovereignty. We are at a critical moment to determine whether Israel is ready to apply Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. Now is the ‘money time.’ I commend Speaker Amir Ohana, who announced the Knesset will pass a resolution this week recognizing Judea and Samaria as part of the State of Israel and calling on the government to apply sovereignty.”

Eliyahu Libman, who once led the Kiryat Arba Council, said that Israel must start referring to Gaza in biblical terms and begin restoring Jewish sovereignty there as well. “When we speak of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, we must stop calling Gaza by its name — we must call it ‘the inheritance of the Tribe of Judah.’ The first step after Simchat Torah should be applying sovereignty. This is the ABC of saving lives. The question is not if there will be massacres by Arabs from Judea and Samaria against Jews — they’ve already decided. The enemy has not abandoned its desire to destroy us. The responsibility is ours to prevent them from doing so.”

The conference concluded with a rousing call from Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar of the Sovereignty Movement, who thanked lawmakers and demanded immediate action. “The time for sovereignty has come! We thank the Knesset members for advancing this important conference and committee. We call on the Israeli government to move from words to actions — and immediately apply Israeli sovereignty over Judea, Samaria, the Jordan Valley and Gaza. It’s time to correct the historical injustice and realize our right to the heart of our promised land. The people demand sovereignty — and their elected leaders must fulfill this Zionist mandate with courage and determination. This is the key to a safe and prosperous future. The real answer to October 7 and to our enemies’ hopes is to uproot those hopes — and apply sovereignty immediately.”

Friedman: Trump, Netanyahu Bet Legacy on Iran Strike, and It Paid Off

In an exclusive conversation with Arutz Sheva-Israel National News, David Friedman, who served as US Ambassador to Israel, asserted that any effort to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria must originate from the Israeli government itself. He voiced firm belief that President Donald Trump’s administration would back a thoughtful and responsible plan if Israel were to take initiative. “Israel has to decide what it wants. It’s not about America, the UN, or the Quartet. It’s about Israel making the right choice for its people,” Friedman said. He had just come from a high-level Knesset forum focused on sovereignty. “If Israel presents a plan that benefits all inhabitants and provides long-term stability, I believe it will receive a warm and constructive reception in Washington.”

Friedman addressed the regional political realities and took aim at the notion of a Palestinian state, especially after the brutal October 7 Hamas onslaught. He referred to the Gaza Strip as a cautionary tale, where Palestinian self-rule led not to development but destruction. “We saw what happened in Gaza, which was entirely Palestinian-controlled and received significant international financial support. Rather than investing in infrastructure or peace, they chose to build terror tunnels and stockpile weapons. That experiment failed and will not be repeated,” he declared.

He went on to say that the same key factors that allowed for the Abraham Accords to flourish—Israel’s strength, close strategic coordination with the US, and a destabilized Iran—are now once again aligning. “These key elements were carefully crafted during the Trump administration but faded during Biden’s tenure. Now, however, they’ve returned. That creates fertile ground for extending normalization and peace agreements across the region,” said Friedman.

Looking back on the recent military coordination between Israel and the United States in joint operations targeting Iran, Friedman said the two nations reached new heights of cooperation. “Never before have Israel and America engaged side-by-side in combat operations against a shared adversary,” he observed. “President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu staked their legacies on those 12 days in June. They worked seamlessly—Israel cleared the airspace, US B2 bombers executed precision strikes. Both sides performed critical roles under immense risk, and they succeeded.”

Addressing criticism from inside the conservative movement in the US, Friedman recognized that not all voices were in favor of the operation—but credited President Trump for showing conviction. “He knew this was not just about Israel but about protecting the world from radical Islamic terrorists gaining nuclear capability. He understood that by doing this, he would be challenging some of his most loyal supporters—Tucker Carlson, Charlie Kirk, and Steve Bannon among them. But he said, ‘Look, guys, on this one you’re wrong. I’m going to do what I want to do because you don’t understand.’ That took real courage.”

When questioned about the influence of the “woke right,” Friedman suggested that their political clout is overstated. He cited a recent House vote where Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to cut funding for Israel’s missile defense was overwhelmingly defeated. “There was a vote just days ago on a proposal from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to defund half a billion dollars for Israel’s missile defense. The result? 422 against, only 6 in favor. That included Greene, Thomas Massie, and a few progressive voices like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. It’s a loud group online but politically marginal,” he explained. “The Republican Party remains overwhelmingly supportive of Israel.”

Commenting on the war in Gaza, Friedman said that the delays in achieving a resolution are solely the fault of Hamas. “The terrorist leadership has been largely decimated, and those remaining are desperate and divided. They’re overplaying their hand in negotiations,” he said. “This is not a case of Israel stalling for the sake of prolonging war. The objectives remain clear—free the hostages and dismantle Hamas. That mission is still incomplete.”

Friedman also touched on the emotional strain the conflict has imposed on Israelis, emphasizing the dual need for security and compassion. “Every day that the hostages remain in captivity is a day too long. I personally know many of the families. Their pain is unimaginable. But the broader population—millions of Israelis—also deserves to return to a life without fear and constant rocket fire. That’s what’s at stake.”

To close the interview, Friedman was asked about his personal relationship with President Trump and dismissed any talk of estrangement. “We remain in close contact. About six weeks ago, I was invited to the Oval Office for an hour-and-a-half conversation. We covered every major issue. He knows I’m available to assist in any capacity, and I will be there if called upon.”
